Because of YOU we were able to donate a variety of school supplies to the wonderful kids at Boys and Girls Country. We are excited to continue to support these kids, who come from families in crisis, by holding a Thanksgiving Food Drive during the next couple of months.
During the holidays, the children have the opportunity to leave campus to visit with family. They get nearly a week at Thanksgiving, however, most of their families cannot take them home for the whole break because they lack childcare and each year, a percentage of our children will be with us on Thanksgiving Day.
BGC always stays open so children who stay there during the holiday are with loving staff who make the day special for their kids. On Thanksgiving Day, one cottage will make feast and invite everyone over for food and games.
"Thanks-n-Giving" dinner at Boys and Girls Country is an incredible evening of gratitude and fellowship. Before the Thanksgiving break when children have the opportunity to go home for a few days and visit family, the Boys and Girls Country family of 160 gathers for a traditional dinner with 15 smoked turkeys and all the fixin's. While the food and company are terrific, it's the open mic that steals the show. Kids are encouraged to go up and share what they are thankful for and constantly blow the staff away by what they share. They are grateful for their "Teaching Parents," "School" "the Donors" "God," and "this opportunity." Everyone leaves dinner feeling full—physically and spiritually. The children go to BGC malnourished, behind in school, with poor social skills and with baggage. But with the help of YOU, we are feeding their bodies, minds, and hearts.
